Rain forests, are crucial to this Earth. They provide homes and shelter for animals and plants. They provide rich vegetation our world needs. And they are absolutely beautiful and tropical. But imagine if all of that disappeared? Even though rain forests still cover 30% of our world in about 100 years all of that could be gone. They take out parts of rain forests the size of panorama also damaging the land around it.
We cut them down for many reasons. A big reason is for money or to provide for people and families. But the biggest reason is agriculture. But in logging operations they cut down countless number of trees. Especially farmers, they cut down forests for more room for crops. Logging operations, provides for wood and paper products. Even though, logging operations are very popular some can be illegal.
Even though it looks like it's mostly the humans fault, sometimes its unintentional. Natural causes, like wild fires, also do a lot of damage. In wildfires, they prevent the growth of younger trees. But with both human and natural deforestation, it's slowly taking away a beautiful thing in our world.
Deforestation, has many serious impacts. A huge, terrible impact is the loss of homes and shelters for millions of species. 70% of the worlds species live in the forests, and when they destroy them they're not just destroying the forests they're destroying the lives of many animals. Another, huge effect is climate change. The tree tops "Canopy" also are a very important part of the forest. The forest ground is moist and without the canopy it would dry out. The rain forests are a big contribution to the water cycle, putting water vapor into the atmosphere, but the forests couldn't help if they all dried
out. Another way the canopy helps the forest is the climate in the forest. In the day, it blocks the suns rays, and in the night it keeps the heat in.
I've been talking about all the problems, now lets see the solutions. Now, obviously the biggest solution would be just to stop cutting down the trees, which isn't really realistic since it does contribute a lot of our needs. A better solution would to not cut down them in such large amounts, and replace the amount of trees cut down with newly planted trees.
I believe, deforestation is wrong because it takes the homes of millions of animals and I don't think that's right. But what do you believe? Are the benefits worth it?
