Our World Footprint

Today earth takes 1 year and 6 months to regenerate every thing we use in a year. If we turn resources into water faster than wastes can turned back into helpful resources it will put us into ecological overshoot. Resulting in deletion of resources in which human life and biodiversity depend on.

Collapsing fisheries, diminishing forest cover, depletion of fresh water systems, and the build up of carbon dioxide emissions, that creates problems like global climate change. Using a tool like an ecological footprint to manage our ecological assets is essential for humanity's survival and success. If we know how much nature we have, how much we use, and who uses it is a great first step. This will allow us to track our progress, as we work toward our goal of a sustainable, living planet.

I calculated my economic footprint and if everyone in the world lived like me we would need 3.6 planets. I now know that I need to start keeping track of my economic footprint and improve the way I live. Over an average life time, each person will: burn 31,350 gallons of gasoline, read 5,054 newspapers=43 trees, discard 64 tons of garbage, and use 1.8 million gallons of water.
