Disarmament Of This World

Disarmament is very important as the money spent on weapons by the country on planet earth exceeded $1.5 trillion in 2010. The need of a peaceful culture and arms reduction is never been this important. There are many types of weapons but the most important one is Nuclear Weapons and there is a major risk that they might get in the wrong hands. Not all of these weapons are used by the governments or security agencies, there are over 640 million licensed weapons that does not include the weapons used by the the terrorist, rebels, gangs and people of the countries in turmoil.

The symbol of the UN disarmament program.

I think all these weapons, used both by the governments and civilians could be harmful  as it is really hard to enforce the gun laws. This leads to incidents such as the school shooting in Connecticut and Countries with unstable or no government such Syria and many others in Africa and all over the world the weapons used by the military are just ready to be misused. But yes weapons are important for defense of an individual and group but you should not have access weapons but keep it under control as done in our country, Canada.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities."

Money spent on weapons can be spent on schools and other public services by the countries as said by US president Dwight D. Eisenhower in the quote above.

United Nations helps many countries with disarmament and dimining by sending foreign soldiers as shown on the picture on the right. I don't think that is fair as people die trying to deal with other countries problem and I also think that there is no need of licensed civilian guns as gun laws are very hard to enforce and those guns and money could be just given to law enforcement so there would be no need of civilian guns. In my opinion there should be a limit on how much a country can spend on weapons depending on their size or location such as U.S. should have less guns than Israel as U.S. is surrounded by allies while Israel is not.

  2. I feel that nuclear weapons are a big threat in our society today. We could that power for stuff much better such as nuclear power to generate whole countries with energy. I do not agree with the disarmament of our country. If we let our guard down we could have another devastating terrorist attack such as 9/11. Guns are a way of life in modern society and we can not just remove them with a moments notice but we should try to eliminate the threat of guns.
