How much do you consume?

How Much do You Consume?

I calculated my human footprint with this human footprint calculator. After the results I was shocked , we harm the earth’s future without even knowing. I found out that my ecological footprint is 5.5 hectares and the Canadian average is 5.8 so I’m pretty close to the average but slightly better. Some people just do what is convenient they don’t think if it will impact the earth. I think after this calculation even though I’m doing better than average I will think more about what I consume and what I do in daily life.

Save The Trees

                           Save The Trees!

Saving trees is saving both animals and human because without trees animals would die and human won't have anything to eat. When cutting trees plant another one to reduce the extinction of forests and to reduce floods.

I never though killing trees wasn't a big deal, now that it can cause a lot of problems like floods and garbage all around the world. You guys can still help by using the 3 R's; Reuse, Reduce and Recycle

Clean Water

I watched the video below and it made me realize how important water is. I did know that dirty water was bad for you but i didn't know it could KILL you. This video show you what the Bayaka people in Africa drink because they dont have clean water like we do.

I think parents are the people who make the most difference in your life! Why, because parents are there from birth until they pass away. If your adopted then your adoptive parents are there from when they have you until they pass away. There with you every step of the way. They even create you.

That's why my parents are some of the people who make a big difference in my life. All of my friends make a big difference in my life to. Why, because we all influence each other to make the right choices.

Cristiano Ronaldo has obviously made a big difference in the lives of soccer players and to the people who look up to him. Bailey in are class 8-1 is somebody I know who is the biggest fan of Ronaldo. She looks up to him like a god.

Any Actor can be a role model for people who want to be an actress, actor or anything movie related, because they can learn to be dramatic in scenes ect.

It may not be that interesting but, its a serious issue and a good way to show it!

This video inspired me by making me want to help. While watching this video I even said to the person beside me "The next time i see somebody who actually needs money for food or something important, I will give some money to if i had money at the time."

If feel very lucky for all the food I have and the money I have to buy the food I want. They don't even get to choose the food they if they got any. This needs to change.

Can our world survive?

I chose this video because it shows you a lot of the problems that face the world today, then it shows solutions to these problems. Some of the issues that they show I didn't even know existed. When I saw all of these issues a question popped into my head "how is our world even surviving?" How is it surviving? Ask yourself that question. Are you helping it? Or hindering it? Our world is hanging by a thread, watch this video and see what you can do to make this world not just survive, but flourish.

Please Watch this!

Human Footprint

I checked my human Footprint and found that we would need two and a half earths to survive with enough resources to supply us if everyone was like me. I didn't realize exactly how much supplies I use compared to some people in the world and it made me think about how much I really need so I am going to try harder to use less and think about what I REALLY need.

Racism

Racism

Racism happens to anyone. making fun of some ones race is not cool it effects peoples lives.

We should be happy we have a variety of races. If we took the time to ask the person what is it that makes them different from others we might be able to understand more. you may be afraid but take them time to understand one another before making rude comments.

We want racism to stop but not much people are stepping up to stop racism. It has happened to many people but they don't try to get help because they are worried they would be more mistreated. How will racism stop if you just say it should stop take action and it will stop slowly yes it may take a long time for racism to stop but not everything is simple. Racism may not seem much to you but some peoples live have been destroyed because of racism.

Human FootPrint

After calculating my Human Footprint, I found out that my ecological footprint is 5.1  hectares, The average Canadian foot print is 5.8  hectares, My current consumption is smaller than the average Canadian footprint and that's a good thing.

Global climate change

Global warming

Global warming or global climate change has become a large problem in our world today.  It may not be affecting you but there are places it is. Take a look at the arctic. the ice is rapidly melting all though it may be a problem now if all of the ice melted in the arctic we would be under around 6 feet of water. Another thing is that it is putting animals that lie in the arctic in danger of becoming extinct as its natural habitat slowly disappears. The cause of this is all the uneeded green house gases. these green house gases trap the heat in our atmosphere causeing global warming. The cause of these green house gases is us. Our power plants oil sands cars all of that everyday uses that we think are harmless are actually hurting our world much more than you would think. reducing the amount that we use these things can be actally rather easy like turning of  the light when you leave a room or car pooling walking biking or other physical ways to get around with out a vehicle. One person may not make the biggest differece in this but more than one will.

Racism

Theirs lots of different people in the world, many races, and two genders , but we are all the same species , Human.

In today's societies there are many diverse country's with lots of different people in them. But when there are diverse countries there is bound to be racism. Whats racism? Racism is when a person of a different race is made fun of because of their height, color, look and weight because its different. Racism is a powerful thing it has a huge impact to those who are victims to it. Racism can happen to anybody its weather the person cares or not.But when the person is made fun of it can make them feel sad and self conscious about themselves.

I do not agree with racism at all and think it should stop but its almost impossible for everybody not to be raciest in all counties the are raciest people and even religions that think that other races are infurer.

Racism can also be used as a weapon  or a reason to kill. We know this because in past events countries have tried to comet gen aside on religions and race's for example Hitler and the Nazis trying to kill all Jewish people or the European people killing of  whole tribes of first nations people.

Buddy Valastro

Buddy Valastro is a pastry chef and one of the owners of Carlos Bakeshop in Hoboken, New Jersey. He is the star of the hit show, "Cake Boss".
The show is very entertaining and often shows Buddy helping the community and various charities.
Buddy is a "wish granter" with Make a Wish Foundation, and kids often ask to bake with him as their wish.
I was inspired by Buddy to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation by asking my friends to come to my birthday party and donate money to the charity instead of giving me gifts. I was able to raise $230.00 with the help of my generous friends.
He has also inspired me to strive to open my own bakery one day!

Changing Lives - Heros

Cristiano Ronaldo

Everybody has a hero, someone who has helped them, taught them, raised them, or inspired them. Someone that they look up to. Heros could be anybody, mine just happens to be Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo is my biggest role model! He has inspired me to chase your dreams and never give up no matter how many critics show up on your pathway, or how many bumps in the road you stumble upon. When Ronaldo was 15, he had to get heart surgery, but this didn’t stop him one small bit. He let this be an opportunity to try even harder. Thats exactly like me, because I have OCD, it has been a bump in the road, but I fight hard through it and get back up even stronger than before. Ronaldo’s success and victories have made me believe that anything can happen if you want it more than you want anything else.

But Ronaldo hasn’t only helped me though, Cristiano helps change many peoples lives around the world. First of all, Cristiano refuses to get tattoos just because it will prevent him to donate blood. Very often Ronaldo donates blood when he the choice to get tattoos, but he sacrifices himself to help others. But that is only one of the many amazing things he does to help people.
Another thing Ronaldo did was dedicate his victory to Gustav, a 3 year old victim of Leukemia who was in great need of a bone marrow transplant. Afterwards, Ronaldo launched an appeal for bone marrow donation. Thirdly, Ronaldo donate his award he earned in 2011 to the Real Madrid foundation, which helps Palestine children in Gaza. The Real Madrid Foundation has helped build 167 schools in 66 different countries.

These are just a few reasons why Cristiano Ronaldo is my idol, and howe he has helped my life and many others too!

End Poverty Now

Poverty.
The word itself comes from the 12th century, but the issue has been around since man step foot on this Earth.
Not having enough food to eat can really effect your health and well being, and every year, 15 million children die from that.
The main question you may be asking yourself is "Why should I care?"
You should care because what if it was you? What if you were starving and searching for scraps of food on the streets right now?

This video is telling you facts about poverty and why it is and issue that we should care about. This video really made me think about why people have to go through this every day. I hope that everyone can understand this global issue and try to help resolve it, because one person can make a big difference. Be that one person.

Terry Fox

Terry Fox was born on July 28 1958. in 1980 he had got cancer in his right leg causing it to be amputated. This was enough to get Terry to run all across Canada to raise awareness of cancer and to earn money for cancer research.  This run eventually caused Terry to get lung cancer and die on June 28 1981.   The length he had run every day was the same as a normal marathon. Terry Fox may have never made it across all of Canada but he had gotten people inspired and reached his goal of earning twenty four million dollars for cancer research.  Before and after these events Terry was a basketball player and won three national championships.

Human Footprint

Footprint Calculator

After calculating my Human Footprint, I found out that my ecological footprint is 6.7 hectares, The average Canadian foot print is 5.8 hectares, My current consumption is bigger the the average Canadian footprint, and would take up 8.2 Canadian football fields.

Your not hungry? Well people around the world are dying of starvation

A lot of people complain that they don't have a phone or that they don’t have nice branded clothes. They never realize what other people are facing every day. Almost half the world ( 3 billion people ) live on less than $2.50 a day, that’s how much it costs to buy a cup of coffee from Starbucks. 41 poor countries ( 567 million people ) have less money than 7 of the richest people in the world combined. 1 billion children live in poverty unable to access clean water, food or a proper education like us. 640 million live without shelter, 400 million have no access to clean water, 270 million have no access to health services, 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 ( about 29,000 children per day ). Less than one percent of what the world spent on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 yet it never happened.
We should be thankful for what we have and not complain. We should be glad we have easy access to clean water, food, health services and education. It is the poor persons fault for making a
bad
decision, that’s why he/she is living the way they are now, but we shouldn't blame poor people for what they did because everybody makes mistakes, even you or I could have made the same mistake. They might have made some bad choices but we could have also done the same thing. I think we should help the less fortunate then ourselves. We buy a lot of things that we want but don’t need. Instead of spending a lot of money on the things we don’t need we should give the money to the poor and make a difference in their lives. It only takes as little as a dollar or less a day to change one child's life forever and give them a good life. There are so many sponsor sites you can go on and help people out just one step at a time. :)

Speaking Out- Candian Activists who have fought for Human Rights

Who has made a difference in not only your life, but someone elses too?

For me it's my mom. She gave me life, I wouldn't be alive right now without her. She has given me a home, family, food and love. When I think about it there is so much my mom has done for me and my family but she didn't stop there. She is a registered nurse at the Children's Stollery Hospital. Everyday she goes to work she helps save someone's life who without the help of my mom and other nurses wouldn't make it or at least wouldn't know know that people are wasting their time to try and save them. My mom makes very important decisions that can lead to life or death. When I was 2 I got kidney failure, I had/have 2 damaged kidneys so the nurses at the hospital wanted to give me a kidney transplant. My mom refused because she new as a nurse that at such a young age you could die from it, she made the right decision I'm alright and healthy now, my mom didn't want to take a chance of me dying and she made the right choice. She gets attached to her patients and treats them like her own child. She cares and loves them like its her own kid lying there hurt, because she knows how it feels when your kid is in the hospital hurt and she tries her best to get them out of the hospital healthy. She shows those kids hope when they have no hope left. To me she makes more than a difference in mine, my families and hurt, injured patients in need of help.

Global Issue Awareness

Bullying

Bullying effects many people, in any grade. It is the use of a force to abuse or intimidate others. Bullying can be verbal harassment or threat,  physical assault or coercion. It may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, but if bullying is done by a group it is called mobbing. People can stop bullying by standing up, but people are generally afraid to because normally the fear is that the bully will come after you. That is not always the case, the bully may and if that happens someone needs to get involved like a parent or teacher, but the thing is bullies won't always go after the person who sticks up for the victim because they feel intimidated. Why not try. If you were the victim you would want help so help someone as if they were you.

Global Warming and Polar Bear

Polar bears are becoming extinct and we can help! Their population is decreasing dramatically. As global warming melts sea ice, the U.S. Geological Survey projects that two thirds of their population will disappear by the year 2050. The ice is freezing later in fall and and melting earlier in spring. That takes the time they have on the ice away by almost and month and a half. If they have no ice, they have to live on land and there's barely any food for them there. Their average weight has dropped down by 15%. The Hudson’s Bay population of polar bears has dropped down by more than 25%.

Not only that, but sea platforms are farther apart. That means that polar bears have to swim farther apart to get to their destination. The larger gaps of open water make harsher and bigger wave conditions causing more hazards for polar bears. A report shows that a female polar bear swam for nine days-nonstop-across the Beaufort Sea causing her her cub and 22% of her weight. Many of them are drowning because of how far they have to travel.

The shrinking polar bear ice cap is also decreasing their prey dramatically. It also affects their main source of food, seals. Their population and nutrition is decreasing too so polar bears are going hungry for longer periods of time, resulting in cannibalistic behavior. The polar bear’s future is still very much in jeopardy. I think we need to take immediate and significant action to reduce global warming pollution.
